Overview:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Creative Arts Coordinator & Cabin Leader will provide direct supervision to a group of youth campers while ensuring the success of arts/crafts programming. Responsible for the health, safety, welfare and personal well being of campers on a 24-hour basis. As a Cabin Leader you will promote and support the potential of all youth in programs and facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

Summer Season: (5/25 - 8/1) with room and board.

Responsibilities:

• Facilitate an engaging group living experience in an outdoor environment for campers while helping each camper meet the goals established by the camp for camper development.
• Provide camper supervision within established policies, procedures, and risk management guidelines
• Actively plan to teach campers in areas of recreation, environmental studies, and social skills
• Responsible for monitoring camper eating habits, health, relationships, and hygiene
• Responsible for developing lesson plans for each week’s discovery units, cabin activities, social hour, discussions, and any other activity period assigned
• Alert maintenance personnel of repairs needed to equipment or facility to maintain proper working/operating conditions
• Prepare for and actively participate in staff training and staff meetings
• Design, implement, and evaluate arts and camp crafts programming
• Inventory and communicate needs with the supplies ordering process in a timely manner for all art materials
• Develop lesson plans and train staff on the implementation of various art/crafts projects
• Serve as a exceptional steward to all program supplies
• Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff, demonstrating the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in the performance of job duties
• Evaluate current season and make suggestions for future season
• Play an active role in all camp activities
• Will work stay over weekends as assigned
• Will perform housekeeping/office/kitchen/maintenance tasks
• Other duties as may be assigned

Qualifications:

• 18 years of age before the start of the summer season
• High School diploma or equivalent required
• Prior experience with youth or family programming preferred
• Must possess a cooperative spirit and be committed to character development by promoting and demonstrating caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility to campers, staff, and program participants
• Must have a sincere and genuine interest in working with youth, and should relate well to all age levels and backgrounds of people
• Facilitate community living with youth in a cabin or tent platform
• Ability to plan, initiate and lead small and large group activities
• Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification

Posted Salary Range: USD $470.00 - USD $470.00 /Wk.
