Job Description

The Center for Indigenous Health (CIH) is located within the Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. CIH employs approximately 250 staff and faculty members across 12 satellite office locations. The core activities housed at CIH include research studies of behavioral/mental health, infectious diseases, a graduate and doctoral training and scholarship program and wide array of public health service activities. We are seeking a Research Program Assistant II to join our team! This position will work across two different teams and projects. The first project is to develop and test a nature-based, culturally grounded substance misuse intervention in Flathead Nation. The second will be to support research studies in the Southwest U.S. This role will support research study needs and effective implementation of primary aims for both projects. The person in this role will assist in carrying out research in accordance with good clinical practices in such activities as obtaining informed consent, data and specimen collection, and participant follow-up over time. This position offers hands-on learning related to research procedures, administrative organization and tracking, and Indigenous health research.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • (This description is a general statement of required duties and responsibilities performed on a regular and continuous basis. It does not exclude other duties as assigned.) Serve as a Research Program Assistant II for multiple research studies in Montana and the Southwest Hub (Arizona & New Mexico). 
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of robust tracking systems for research and administrative procedures related to research project implementation.
  • Complete administrative forms and paperwork, such as contract documents, expense reports, travel arrangements and reports, and purchase requests.
  • Communicate effectively with the research team and community partners.
  • Occasional local travel around Flathead Reservation/Missoula, MT areas.
  • Maintain respect and confidentiality of documents and files.
  • Support project coordination and task organization for the team.
  • Assist with other Center-wide programmatic duties as needed.
  • Assist with dissemination of project findings in annual reports, at national conferences and in the scientific literature.
  • Attend and (co-)facilitate Community Advisory Board meetings as necessary.
  • Represent the project in a community setting to initiate and maintain interest in the project.
  • Provide referrals for youth and families to outside services and entities as appropriate.
  • Attend in-person trainings and meetings (travel required).
  • Work with the rest of project team on duties related to the general conduct of the program and evaluation and participate in staff meetings to review project goals and progress.
  • Update program logs and maintain up-to-date data entry records as needed.
  • Review data for document accuracy and processing as needed.
  • Collect data from participants, which may include some or all of the following: interview data; self-report data; observational data in the home; health specimen collections.

  • Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written).


Other

  • Ability to travel as needed, including overnight trips for extended periods of time.
  • Valid driver?s license issued by the state of residence with a good driving record.
  • Some flexibility is required to ensure that evening and weekend work is completed for some projects.
  • This position will maintain background clearance as required by the employer and any collaborating agencies.





Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Two years related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.




Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research experience.
