Basics of a Collections Supervisor

• Exempt Role
• Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 5:30 pm and alternate Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm
• Flexibility required - extended hours, based on company needs
• Hybrid Position - After the initial training period, a hybrid work model will become an option. You will be requested to work 3 days on-site and 2 days remote. Allowing for a blend of remote and onsite work based on performance and departmental needs.

Summary of what you'll do as a Collections Supervisor

The Collections Supervisor leads advanced collections activities and provides leadership to assigned staff. This role has expertise in team leadership, handling complex accounts, bankruptcy, reporting, and compliance.

Team Leadership:

• Implement the day-to-day operational strategy as set by the AVP-Collections.
• Attract, train, and develop new and existing staff.
• Monitors staff and recommends best practice collections techniques for department staff.
• Ensure department coverage at all times through proactive review of team member schedules, operational activities, and individual workloads.
• Organize and facilitate staff meetings regarding team performance, recognition, and information exchange.
• Provide input on team member actions (e.g. hiring, terminations, KPI setting, performance and salary reviews, disciplinary actions, and scheduling.)
• Assist in the creation of daily and weekly targets for team members.
• Ensure adherence to organizational policies and procedures.

Department Operations:

• Serve as a subject matter expert on collections processes and regulations.
• Prepare and analyze reports on collection activities and trends.
• Collaborate with other departments to optimize collections strategies.
• Identify and implement process improvements for enhanced efficiency.
• Authorizes or refers accounts for repossession and legal actions against debtors.

Compliance:

• Comply with credit union policies, Fair Debt Collection Practices, and other applicable rules and regulations related to Collections.
• Comply with the credit union Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) Policy and Anti Money Laundering and Member Due Diligence Procedures. The BSA training is to be completed within 90 days of employment and annually thereafter.
• Complete compliance and career development training as assigned.
• Perform other duties as needed to support the Collections team.

Qualifications

Must haves for Collections Supervisor

• Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, top-tier customer service, attention to detail, and advanced problem solving.
• Experience: 4+ years in Consumer Collections, including repossession, bankruptcy, and advanced loss mitigation.
• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice to haves for a Collections Supervisor

• Skills: Bilingual – Spanish
• Experience: Prior supervisory experience.
