Veterinary Anesthesia Technician

Red Bank Veterinary Hospital (RBVH) proudly opened its new, state-of-the-art facility in May 2024—an expansive, 100,000+ square foot space nearly twice the size of our original Tinton Falls location. This milestone marks the continuation of over 40 years of dedicated service to our community. Equipped with advanced diagnostics like MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, and a PET scanner, the hospital features 52 exam rooms, 12 surgical suites, a dedicated emergency department, and expanded training spaces. Thoughtful amenities—including feline-only waiting areas, a rehab unit, comfort rooms, and a serene zen garden—reflect our commitment to exceptional care for pets and their families.

Position Overview:
The Anesthesia Technician within the Radiation Oncology department must be outgoing, be able to work independently, possess excellent communication skills, and make use of all available time. They must have good organizational skills and the ability to perform and work proficiently in a wide variety of daily situations. They must also be able to work with every department in the hospital. The radiation oncology anesthesia technician provides a link between clients, client services, doctors, and technicians.

Compensation & Benefits:

• Full Time (Multiple roles available)
  • Credentialed Technicians: $30- $34/hr. based on experience
  • Non-Credentialed Technicians: $25- $29/hr. based on experience

The final compensation offer will be based on the qualified candidate’s experience and ability to make an impact coming into the role.

Anticipated Schedule:

• Full Time
  • Tuesday - Friday
    • 7:30am – 5:30pm

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and set up all necessary equipment for anesthetic or sedation procedures, including ensuring appropriate machine configuration for the planned event.
• Conduct pressure checks on anesthesia machines and verify proper functioning of all breathing circuits prior to use.
• Assemble and organize supplies for IV catheter placement and endotracheal intubation, ensuring readiness for smooth induction.
• Accurately calculate and draw up anesthetic and premedication drug dosages based on patient weight and protocol, in accordance with veterinary prescriptions.
• Maintain detailed anesthesia records by continuously monitoring and documenting vital parameters, including heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature, and anesthetic depth.
• Demonstrate strong working knowledge of anesthetic agents, their pharmacology, and appropriate dosing for various patient types.
• Possess a clear understanding of normal anesthetic vital sign ranges and how these may vary by species, breed, or individual patient condition.
• Utilize and interpret monitoring equipment such as blood pressure monitors (Doppler or oscillometric), ECG, capnography, and pulse oximetry; identify abnormal readings and assist with immediate troubleshooting or intervention.
• Provide anesthetic support for ASA level 1–3 patients undergoing advanced diagnostic procedures such as CT scans or radiation therapy, adjusting protocols as needed based on patient health status.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:

• Three years of experience working as a nursing team member in a veterinary hospital is required.
• Prior experience with anesthesia techniques and protocols is required.
• Fluent English skills (speaking & reading) are required for the role; fluency in multiple languages a plus!

Preferred Qualifications:

• Credentialed as a Veterinary Technician (LVT/CVT/RVT)
