Job Description

Description

The Social Media Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and optimizing the day-to-day distribution of content across social media channels for the Garden Group’s three gardening brands. Please note that this role focuses on promoting editorial content, events, and products for multiple brands, and is not by nature a content creation role. The ideal candidate is strategic, detail-oriented, and highly organized, with a strong understanding of audience development, social media best practices, and the nuances of brand voice.

This person will collaborate closely with editors and leadership to ensure that all social posts are aligned with editorial priorities and brand standards. They should be comfortable with the editorial process in general, i.e. developing and pitching new campaign ideas and messaging for editorial review and approval before initiating projects.

The Social Media Manager will be responsible for implementing an approved social strategy across platforms to drive traffic, increase follower engagement, and support key performance goals including subscription growth, event attendance, and product sales.

They will also coordinate timing and messaging with other marketing and editorial stakeholders, and ensure consistency in tone, look, and voice across all platforms per brand.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a social media calendar for each brand, aligning with editorial content, business goals, and seasonal campaigns.
  • Coordinate and schedule daily content across social platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Pinterest, Threads, and LinkedIn.
  • Submit social post ideas, campaign plans, and messaging to editors and the Executive Digital Editor for review and approval before execution.
  • Promote existing editorial content, video, events, and marketing initiatives to maximize audience reach and engagement.
  • Work with the Digital Content Editor and print team to ensure brand voice, design consistency, and tone across platforms.
  • Monitor post-performance and audience interaction; flag engagement trends and recommend optimizations.
  • Analyze results from tests and campaigns to improve performance and guide strategic decisions.
  • Support social partnerships and collaborations, including influencer outreach in coordination with other departments.
  • Use scheduling tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Later.com) and design software (Adobe Creative Suite) to support visual consistency in posts.
  • Perform basic video editing (reels, clips, teasers) for social channels when necessary—primarily adapting existing assets rather than creating original content.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience managing brand social media accounts, preferably in media or lifestyle industries
  • Proficiency with social media management tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Later.com, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite)
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Trello, Asana, or Monday.com
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Drive)
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Strong writing skills with an understanding of brand tone and audience targeting
  • Experience interpreting data analytics to guide and improve content promotion strategy
  • Familiarity with basic graphic and video editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, CapCut)
  • Comfort collaborating in a fast-paced, feedback-driven, multi-brand editorial environment
  • Understanding of editorial workflows and the importance of content review and approval processes
  • Experience with or interest in gardening is preferred, though not required
