Job Description

The Leadership Giving program will serve donors whose gifts support MD Anderson at a giving level of $5,000 - $100,000 by fostering a relationship between the donor and the institution through regular contact with personal visits, phone calls, and other engagement opportunities.  The team will actively qualify this segment of donors with a goal to develop the relationship for a time when a major or planned gift opportunity is identified.  This program assists in the qualification of donors at the leadership giving level, helps donors discover new opportunities to engage with MD Anderson and maximizes donor lifetime value by ensuring each prospect is engaged in a manner appropriate for their capacity and interest.  In addition, the Leadership Giving team oversees the programmatic strategy and execution for the Advance Team, a philanthropic engagement board of volunteers.  

In advancement of the institution's largest philanthropic campaign in history, MD Anderson is seeking a Senior Associate Director, Leadership Giving to join the Individual Giving team.  The Senior Associate Director will pursue growth and sustainability of an individual portfolio (or programmatic cohort) of Leadership Giving donors, meaningfully engaging all donors and establishing a constituent portfolio that generates a minimum of $1.5 million in gift revenue annually.

In addition to personal accountability to donors under assignment, the Senior Associate Director will also provide supervision and coaching to gift officers who are heavily prospecting for leadership gift donors in a designated travel territory and conceptualizing highly customized cultivation strategies for individual constituents and stakeholders to personally solicit and secure philanthropic gifts up to $100,000 for the institution's fundraising priorities.  This position may manage special projects and initiatives in addition to or in lieu of managing others.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Stakeholder Engagement (60%) 

Display the ability to qualify, cultivate and solicit new donors to the institution. Display social awareness, professional etiquette, and the ability to interact and build rapport with donors, faculty and institutional leaders. Engage with varied constituencies with social fluency and garner their trust as to influence donor behavior. Appropriately align donors to giving opportunities and orchestrate and facilitate meaningful engagements. 

· Manage a balanced portfolio of donors in the $5,000 to $100,000 segment, progressively growing portfolio to sustain consistent gift revenue. 

· Supplement existing portfolio through the qualification of prospective leadership giving

· donors. 

· Develop strategic moves management and donor engagement plans to upgrade and

· renew gifts and create unique opportunities to engage and steward donors with a goal of bringing the donor closer to the institution through philanthropy. 

· Strengthen donor relationships through creative and proactive donor engagement plans

· and impact reporting. 

Perception and Attentiveness (20%) 

Accurately assess interests of prospective donors (or administer the facilitation of this process and provide delegation to individual gift officers for members of one of MD Anderson's philanthropic engagement boards); organize and present information in thoughtful and engaging ways, constantly shift between multiple activities and sources of information, maintain situational awareness, institutional awareness and adeptly navigate cross functional prospect teams in support of donor engagement, solicitation and stewardship plans. 

· Implement sound donor strategies to transition the donor through the donor continuum

· by presenting additional philanthropic opportunities such as major gifts, planned gifts or

· other avenues for giving. 

· Thoughtfully connect donor interests with the institutional fundraising priorities. 

· Demonstrate commitment to excellence and exquisite interpersonal skills. 

· Document activity and results of all substantive contacts with donors in CRM. 

· Effectively and professionally communicate to donors, colleagues, and other

· stakeholders.

Leadership and Project Management (20%)

Drive execution of strategic plans and lead decision making around donor relationships, special projects and initiatives and the orchestration of strategic approaches. Continuously capture and collect significant data points, execute on deliverables with precision, develop actionable strategies and allocate appropriate resources to execute work functions.

· Provide guidance, coaching, and supervision to direct reports ensuring their success and professional development.

· Manage the execution of team-related initiatives, which may involve indirect influence and delegation to ensure effectiveness.

· Comprehend overall strategic direction for specific initiatives while ensuring multiple programmatic components are in sync with strategy.

· Manage programmatic components from conceptualization through execution to evaluation.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Four years direct fundraising experience. Two years supervisory experience. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

Preferred: Five or more years of professional experience in portfolio-based fundraising with experience securing five- and six-figure gifts. Demonstrated experience working with faculty, leadership teams, campaign/board members and fellow development professionals to execute fundraising strategies.

Ability to maintain a high level of consistent productivity. Track record of expanding donor participation in giving efforts and experience working with high-level giving constituencies. High degree of diplomacy, emotional intelligence, ethical sensitivity, cultural sensitivity and commitment to confidentiality. Demonstrated track record of using tact and diplomacy in communications with a wide variety of personalities. Willingness to travel as well as work some nights and weekends.
