Job Classification: Patrol Officer (Full/Part-Time)
The Rossford Police Department is recruiting for Entry-Level and Lateral Applicant positions for Full-Time and/or Part-Time Probationary Patrol Officers. Testing is ongoing, but tests taken after October 31, 2024, will not be accepted for this round of hiring. Candidates must also submit a Rossford Police Department application by the closing date.
Lateral Applicants:
Applicants with at least one year of full-time service as an accredited police officer are exempt from the written test and physical agility test. However, they must submit a city employment application. Prior service credit of up to three years may be considered for wages and leave benefits if selected.
Salary Information:
Starting wage: $27.20 per hour, subject to negotiated contract
Hourly wages increase at 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, and 3 years
Top rate of $35.13 per hour is achieved after three years
Officers working afternoon or midnight shifts receive a $0.50 shift differential
Probationary period: 1 year
Uniform/Equipment Reimbursement:
0-12 months employed: 100% reimbursement of uniforms/equipment
13-24 months employed: 75% reimbursement
25-36 months employed: 50% reimbursement
Department Overview:
The Rossford Police Department is a small department with 1 lieutenant, 4 sergeants (one serving as a Detective), and 13 full-time patrol officers, including 2 assigned full-time to schools. The Chief of Police oversees the department, supported by an Administrative Assistant. The department serves a close-knit community of over 6,000 residents. Rossford officers handle a range of service calls, from traffic enforcement to criminal acts, while maintaining a low level of serious crime due to the city's location near a metropolitan area and major highways. Most officers remain with the department until retirement.

Rossford is located at the crossroads of Interstate 75 and the Ohio Turnpike, offering a blend of small-town charm and proximity to the Toledo metropolitan area. The city, incorporated as a village in 1939 and as a city in 1971, is governed by a mayor and a seven-member City Council. Job Requirements:
Age: Must be 21 years of age at hire; maximum age of 40 for original appointments per ORC 124.41.
Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Education: High school diploma or GED required; college education is preferred.
Driver's License: Must have a valid Ohio driver's license or equivalent with photo ID.
Vision: Must have corrected 20/20 vision in both eyes and not be colorblind.
Residency Requirement: Must reside within Wood County or adjacent counties within six months of completing the probationary period.
Veteran's Credit: Requests for Veteran's Credit must be submitted with a certified copy of form DD-214 by the designated deadline.
Hiring Process:
Written Test: Applicants must score 70% or higher on the entrance exam to be placed on the eligibility list.
Physical Agility Test: Candidates who pass the written exam will participate in a physical fitness test following OPOTA standards.
Oral Board Interview: Successful candidates will advance to an oral board interview for evaluation.
Background Investigation: The next steps include an extensive background check, drug testing, psychological evaluation, and polygraph exam. Any negative findings may result in disqualification.
Probation:
The probationary period is part of the testing process, allowing time to assess an employee's performance and fit within the department. It lasts a minimum of one year from the first workday and may be extended at the department's discretion.
