Job Summary/Purpose

The Resident Stage Manager ensures that all Studio productions are executed in a safe, efficient, and timely manner while maintaining artistic excellence and integrity. The Resident Stage Manager serves as the point of communication during the rehearsal and performance process for our Regional Professional Theatre. The Resident Stage Manager will have varying responsibilities within each of our five scheduled yearly productions as one of a three-person Stage Management team, serving as either Production Stage Manager, Deck Stage Manager, or Swing Stage Manager. The Resident Stage Manager will participate in each production from beginning concepts through closing night.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities for this position include the following; While this is intended to be an accurate reflection of the current job, Management reserves the right to revise this job or to require that other or different functions be performed when circumstances change or exigencies require (this includes but is not limited to emergencies, changes in personnel, workload, rush jobs or technology developments) 

  • Shall assemble and maintain the Prompt Book which is defined as the accurate playing text and stage business, together with such cue sheets, plots, daily records, etc., as are necessary for the actual technical and artistic operation of the production
  • Shall work collaboratively with the Director and the heads of all other departments to serve the production needs
  • Serve as part of the communication hub for a production while in rehearsals or performance by providing daily rehearsal or performance reports for all necessary departments
  • Assist in creating schedule breakdowns and rehearsal calls in accordance with the productions needs
  • Ensure compliance with AEA rules
  • Running or calling the technical elements of each production while in performance
  • Help maintain the artistic intentions of the Director and the Producer after opening, to the best of their ability, including calling correctional rehearsals of the company when necessary and preparation of Understudies and Replacements
  • Keep records to advise the Producer on matters of attendance, time, accidents, or other matters that may need documentation
  • Escalate safety, patron, security, and deep level technical or hospitality issues to the Production/Technical Direction Team as needed.

Minimum Requirements

  • Two years of stage management experience, theatre management experience, or equivalent education
  • Highly proficient in operating within an Office365 environment, particularly Outlook and Teams
  • Ability to learn, use, and leverage technology in the course of their work
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with supervisors, peers, and internal and external clients.
  • Ability to foster a safe, humane, collaborative, organized, respectful, and energized work environment with a positive attitude and a sense of humor
  • Comprehensive understanding of theatre/event terminology
  • Capacity to solve problems and engage in creative thinking to overcome challenges
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have experience advocating for equity, diversity, and inclusion

  • The ability to climb a ladder to access the Stage Management booth.
  • Grasping and gripping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in operating equipment, using tools and preparing written material.
  • Near and far vision in reading, operating equipment, and viewing productions.
  • Hearing is required to manage and operate sound systems and to communicate with others.
  • The need to be able to lift, drag, and/or push materials weighing up to 25 pounds using appropriate tools
  • Exposure to loud sounds, flashing lights, and theatrical haze and fog effects
  • Exposure to hazards such as chemicals, flammable materials, high voltage, trip hazards, overhead work hazards. 

Preferred Start Date  

The preferred start date for this position is Tuesday, April 22, 2025. We are willing to be flexible on the start date for the right candidate.
