Job Description

Utilities One is seeking an experienced National Director of Underground Construction to lead, manage, and oversee all underground construction operations nationwide . This role requires a strategic and hands-on leader who can ensure high-quality execution, compliance with safety standards, and efficient project delivery. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in underground telecom construction, leadership capabilities, and the ability to drive operational excellence across multiple markets.

Responsibilities

  • Establish the overall strategic direction for underground construction nationwide, aligning with corporate goals and market demands. Develop policies, frameworks, and long-term initiatives to drive growth, operational excellence, and innovation;
  • Provide executive-level oversight and decision-making for all underground construction operations across the country, ensuring alignment with financial, operational, and business objectives;
  • Develop, approve, and manage the national budget for underground construction operations, ensuring cost efficiency, profitability, and financial sustainability;
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including senior executives, governmental agencies, large-scale clients, and strategic partners, representing the company in critical negotiations and industry forums;
  • Ensure comprehensive risk management strategies are in place across all projects. Establish compliance frameworks for safety, regulatory, and environmental standards at the national level;
  • Establish national performance metrics and reporting mechanisms. Provide executive leadership with detailed analyses, performance insights, and strategic recommendations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in underground telecom construction, infrastructure deployment, or related fields;
  • Proven track record in senior leadership roles, such as Regional Manager, National Manager, or Director, with responsibility for multi-state operations and large-scale projects;
  • Comprehensive knowledge of underground fiber optic construction, excavation, permitting processes, and telecom infrastructure standards;
  • Experience managing budgets, financial performance, and resource allocation for large-scale construction projects;
  • Must be located or willing to relocate to Washington, Oregon, Texas, Missouri;
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor senior management teams, including project managers, field crews, and subcontractors, across multiple regions.
