Position Title: Firefighter
Salary Information:
$6,157 monthly
Additional compensation available for certification and education levels as specified in the bargaining agreement

Job Requirements:
Age: At least 18 at the time of employment
Citizenship: U.S. citizen
Education: High School Diploma or GED required; two-year degree in Fire Science preferred
Driver's License: Valid license required, Oregon license must be obtained within 30 days of hire
Vision: Corrected to 20/20
Certifications:
Oregon EMT Level B or National EMT Certification (Oregon certification required within 30 days of hire)
Additional Requirements:
Excellent physical condition (medical examination required)
Non-smoker for at least six months prior to appointment
Hiring Process:
Complete FireTEAM written exam and CPAT within one year prior to application.
Applications will be reviewed for minimum and preferred qualifications.
Assessment process, Chief's interview, background investigation, driving record check, and pre-employment physical and drug screening.
General Position Summary:
Firefighters are responsible for fire suppression, prevention, hydrant system maintenance, and emergency medical services. Work involves 48-hour shifts and requires responding to emergencies, maintaining equipment, and conducting public education and fire prevention activities.
Essential Functions:
Respond to fire alarms, medical emergencies, and rescue situations.
Suppress fires using proper techniques and equipment.
Perform rescue operations, including extrication and victim assistance.
Operate and maintain fire department apparatus, tools, and facilities.
Conduct fire prevention inspections and public education.
Maintain physical fitness and practice firefighting skills through drills and training.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed indoors, outdoors, and in hazardous conditions, requiring specialized gear and equipment. Regular exposure to extreme temperatures, contaminants, noise, and hazardous situations is common. Physical demands include running, climbing, lifting, and assisting victims in emergency scenarios.
