Job Classification: Entry-Level Firefighter
WA Fire Careers is conducting a continuous recruitment process for entry-level firefighters, anticipating upcoming recruit academies. Recruitment is open, with scores being reviewed on March 26, 2025, for the August 2025 academy.
Requirements for Consideration:
NTN FireTeam Written Exam: A valid written test score must be on file by March 26, 2025.
CPAT Physical Exam: A valid CPAT certificate from an accredited agency is required by March 26, 2025.
Public Safety Self-Assessment (PSSA): Must be completed through the candidate's account.
Personal History Questionnaire (PHQ): Accessed and completed through the candidate's account.
Overview
WA Fire Careers is a collaborative organization comprising various fire departments in King County, Washington, including Enumclaw Fire, King County District 20, Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority, Renton Regional Fire Authority, and Valley Regional Fire Authority. These agencies are part of the South King County Fire Training Consortium (SKCFTC), providing consistent training across member agencies.
WA Fire Careers aims to make the entry-level firefighter process more affordable and accessible. By offering a single low-cost exam, applicants can be placed on a candidate list that participating agencies use for hiring. This approach helps streamline the process, reducing the time candidates need to spend away from other commitments during interviews.
Written Examination
Candidates must complete both the written test and CPAT before scores are reviewed on March 26, 2025, for the August 2025 academy. Out-of-state CPATs certified by the IAFF are accepted. Candidates need to upload their CPAT certificates to the NTN document center by this date.
The written examination is continuously available through the National Testing Network (NTN). A minimum passing score of 70% is required. All scores submitted through NTN will be considered, and candidates must have a valid score on or before the date scores are pulled.
Process Details
Written Exam: Can be taken at any NTN test center or through the virtual option. Candidates can transfer valid scores taken within the past 12 months.
Oral Board Interviews: Scheduled for April 19-25, 2025. Candidates advancing to this stage will self-schedule online. A 70% minimum score is required to proceed.
Eligibility List: Candidates who pass the oral board will be placed on an eligibility list, ranked by their final exam score. This list will be used for filling positions in the upcoming academies.
Application and Selection Process
Candidates must complete the written test and PSSA through NTN by March 26, 2025.
Following successful completion, candidates will be invited to participate in interviews based on their scores.
Veterans' preference points will be applied to eligible candidates, who must submit the necessary documentation.
Pre-Employment Requirements
A comprehensive background investigation, including a physical ability test, drug screening, psychological, and medical exams, is required.
Conditional offers of employment depend on passing all pre-employment evaluations. Candidates who do not meet the requirements will be removed from the eligibility list.
Chiefs Interviews
Candidates selected for the next recruitment stage in preparation for the August 2025 academy will participate in Chiefs Interviews with the respective agencies from May 12-16, 2025.
