Job Description

TalentSource360 is currently conducting interviews for a Corporate Controller on behalf of a large nonprofit oriented client. This individual will play a critical role in overseeing all financial operations, ensuring the organization’s financial health, compliance, and transparency, especially in relation to membership dues, donor funding, and grants. The Corporate Controller will work closely with the CFO, Executive Director, Finance Committee, and other key stakeholders to ensure that resources are managed efficiently to support our mission-driven initiatives. This position is ideal for someone passionate about using their financial expertise to support non-profit objectives.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the organization’s accounting functions, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions.
  • Supervise the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring they comply with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and non-profit accounting standards.
  • Manage cash flow, budget, and forecast to ensure financial stability, and provide regular updates to senior leadership and board members.
  • Develop and monitor financial performance metrics and KPIs to track the organization’s progress towards its financial and programmatic goals.
  • Lead the development and management of the annual budget in collaboration with program directors and senior leadership, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities.
  • Track budget performance against actual results, identifying variances and offering solutions to mitigate negative discrepancies.
  • Provide financial analysis and recommendations to support long-term strategic planning and decision-making processes.
  • Oversee the proper handling of donor funding, ensuring that funds are used in accordance with donor intent, grant requirements, and organizational policies.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to donors, foundations, and membership groups regarding financial contributions and how funds are being utilized.
  • Develop and manage restricted and unrestricted fund accounting, tracking donations, grants, membership fees, and ensuring compliance with donor restrictions.
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard the organization’s assets, prevent fraud, and ensure compliance with financial regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations as well as industry best practices related to non-profit accounting, tax filings, and reporting.
  • Coordinate annual audit activities and provide support to external auditors, ensuring that the organization passes all audits and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure timely and accurate filing of tax returns, annual reports, and other necessary financial documentation.
  • Prepare and present financial reports to the board of directors, finance committee, and senior leadership, explaining financial performance, trends, and risk factors.
  • Ensure all donor reports, grant reports, and membership funding documentation are clear, accurate, and submitted in accordance with deadlines.
  • Lead and mentor the finance team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment.
  • Develop training programs for staff on financial policies, systems, and reporting.
  • Ensure continuous professional development for finance staff to enhance their technical and organizational skills.
  • Manage and coordinate internal and external audits, ensuring accurate and timely completion of audits and reviews.
  • Identify financial risks and implement strategies to mitigate risk related to funding, grants, and overall financial management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in a non-profit environment, managing donor-funded or membership-based organizations.
  • Strong understanding of non-profit accounting, fund accounting, and the financial complexities of membership organizations, donor funding, grants, and restricted funds.
  • Experience with budgeting, financial reporting, and audit processes within the non-profit sector.
  • Proven track record of financial oversight and leadership within a complex, mission-driven organization.
  • Expertise in financial management software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or other accounting systems).
  • Advanced proficiency with Excel and other reporting tools to analyze financial data and present insights to stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations and compliance with financial reporting requirements.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships across departments and with external partners.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • A passion for the organization’s mission and a commitment to transparency and integrity in financial management.
  • Experience with fund accounting and managing donor or grant-funded financials.
  • Familiarity with non-profit financial reporting requirements (e.g., Statement of Functional Expenses, Statement of Cash Flows, etc.).
  • Advanced degree or certification in non-profit management, accounting, or finance is a plus.
