Job Description

The Department of Pharmaceutics, School of Pharmacy at the University of Washington (Seattle campus) invites applications for a 100% FTE, 12-month service period, faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor without tenure (WOT), with an anticipated start date of July 1 st , 2025.

The Department of Pharmaceutics is internationally renowned for excellence in research and training in the areas of pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, drug transport and drug delivery. The Department consists of 13 full-time faculty and 17 affiliate, adjunct or emeritus faculty. At the start of the 2024-25 academic year, our graduate program includes 21 PhD and 12 MS students. The diverse community in the department also includes post-doctoral fellows, research scientists and administrative or fiscal staff. The vibrant research programs in the department are supported by over $12 million in annual research funding.

The School of Pharmacy houses facilities and instrumentation for state-of-the-art mass spectrometry of small molecule and protein analyses, nucleic acid analyses, cell culture and imaging, microphysiologic systems, and drug formulation.  The Department and the School of Pharmacy, located in the health sciences complex, is adjacent to the University of Washington?s comprehensive medical center, affording the ability to conduct studies in healthy volunteers and patients. The health sciences complex also offers cutting edge facilities for cryo-electron microscopy, confocal, widefield and live cell fluorescence microscopy, high throughput compound screening, genomic analysis, animal facilities (including a primate center) and other bioanalytical instrumentation. Adjacent to School of Pharmacy space, are the Departments of Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering and Genome Sciences, as well as the Brotman Baty Institute for Precision Medicine.  Other institutions and centers within or close to the University campus that are supportive of pharmaceutical science research include the Institute of Translational Health Science (CTSA-funded), Diabetes Research Center, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle Children?s Research Institute, Allen Institute of Brain Sciences, Interdisciplinary Center for Exposures, Diseases, Genomics and Environment, The Institute for Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine, Molecular Engineering & Science Institute, and The Institute for Protein Design. These resources, combined with the highly collaborative culture, contribute to the outstanding research environment of the University of Washington which consistently ranks as one of the premier research Universities in the world.

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Engage in research, teaching, mentorship, and service, and to develop a teaching portfolio that enhances the Department's teaching mission, including classroom instruction at the PharmD, graduate and undergraduate level.
  • Support the educational mission of the Pharmaceutical Sciences through the development and implementation of innovative didactic and practical training programs that support the education and training of the next generation of researchers and educators. The candidate will serve as the lead instructor for the following courses:
    1. PCEUT 531 Pharmaceutical Formulation: Principles and Dosage Forms ( )
    2. PCEUT 540 Master's Thesis Workshop ()

These instructional requirements will provide 50% of the candidate?s salary with the remainder of their support coming from other research and/or service-related activities

  • Develop and/or maintain an externally funded, independent research/scholarship program, resulting in peer-reviewed publications and other scientific communications.

Annual Salary and Benefits

The base salary range for this position will be $8,500 - $11,000 per month , commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

  • Doctoral degree (or foreign equivalent) in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutics, Medicinal Chemistry, Bioengineering, Pharmacology, or a related biomedical field from an accredited institution.
  • At least 1 year of teaching and student mentoring experience at the undergraduate, graduate or professional degree level.
  • Understanding of and/or potential for expertise in translational research in drug delivery, drug (small or large molecule) metabolism or transport, pharmacokinetics, systems pharmacology, pharmacometrics or pharmacogenomics. This understanding and/or potential may be gained through residency, fellowship, other postgraduate training or equivalent research experience, or demonstrated by sustained research productivity and publication.
