Position Title: Assistant Professor, Psychology (Opportunity to Associate Professor Rank)

Department: Psychology

Reports To: Psychology Department Chair

Location: In-person (River Forest, IL)

This position offers potential advancement to Associate Professor for candidates with relevant credentials and experience. 

Position Summary:

The Psychology Department at Dominican University is accepting applications for two tenure-track positions in psychology, areas of specialization open , one at the rank of Assistant Professor and the other at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. We welcome applicants who are passionate about teaching and pedagogy who would enthusiastically support undergraduates' research training, both by mentoring students' independent research and by inviting students to work on their research. Though area of specialization is open, we are especially interested in candidates for one of the positions who can offer one or more courses in our developmental psychology curriculum, including Lifespan, Child, and Adolescent Psychology and Adult Development and Aging and would be interested in working with the other faculty members in the department to re-envision, organize, and standardize our Developmental Psychology curriculum. We also encourage candidates who would be interested in working with other faculty members to do the same with our Introduction to Psychology curriculum.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach 21 credit hours per academic year. 
  • Advise students. 
  • Contribute to the department and university's shared commitment to building a culturally diverse and inclusive educational environment. 
  • Share in administration and stewardship of the psychology department and its affiliated academic programs (contribute to shared tasks related to scheduling, advising affiliated student organizations, assessment plans, program review, recruitment events, our annual student awards ceremony, etc.). 
  • Contribute to the university community and work towards fulfilling the criteria laid out in the Dominican University faculty handbook for tenure and successful post-tenure review. 

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or ABD from an APA approved graduate program required. 
  • A commitment to working with first-generation, immigrant, and/or underrepresented/historically excluded students.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Evidence of a commitment to inclusive teaching excellence.
  • Interest in dedicated engagement in liberal arts education, preferably with intellectual interests that align with Dominican University's mission to "Pursue truth, engage in compassionate service, and participate in the creation of a more just and humane world".  

Physical Demands:

  • Must be able to offer in-person classroom instruction at our established teaching load. 
  • Ability to spend long durations of the workday sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at a time. 

Salary and FLSA Status

  • FLSA Status: Exempt, full-time
  • SALARY:$58,000 - $70,000. The final rank and salary will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
