Job Description

Warren Wilson College welcomes applicants for a faculty position in Psychology. This is an Assistant Professor position in an extended contract system with a 3-3 load beginning in August of 2025. The priority date has been updated to February 16, 2025.

We seek a faculty member with a background in social psychology, ecopsychology, and/or expressive arts therapy, who is strongly committed to teaching and closely mentoring students in an undergraduate liberal arts environment.

Candidates must be able to offer courses in Introduction to Psychology, as well as upper level courses in their specialty area(s). All faculty supervise senior theses and capstone practica, and advise students in the Psychology major. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to teach additional courses in their areas of expertise and engage students in research and community-based projects. Priority will be given to candidates who have experience in some combination of the following: social psychology, ecopsychology, and/or expressive arts therapy. We are seeking candidates who demonstrate a commitment to experiential learning and a desire to teach and mentor undergraduate students from diverse cultural backgrounds, and we encourage applications from candidates from underrepresented backgrounds.

Responsibilities

  • Teach 24 credit hours per year;
  • Provide academic and career advising to majors in the department;
  • Participate in and contribute to the business of the Psychology and Expressive Arts departments;
  • Contribute to the college's General Education Program, as appropriate;
  • Engage in ongoing professional development and scholarly activities;
  • Engage in service to the college.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph.D in Psychology. ABD will be considered.
  • One year of successful teaching experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with advancing diversity, equity and inclusion in learning spaces. For instance, experience incorporating inclusive teaching modalities and working with diverse student populations (e.g., racial/ethnic, income, immigration status, sexual orientation/gender identification, etc.). 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of teaching experience at the undergraduate level.
  • Evidence of experiential and applied learning pedagogy.
  • Experience successfully mentoring undergraduate students in research.
