OVERVIEW
Cedarstone began in 1993 as one friend helping another establish a nonprofit. We discovered that when Cedarstone provides accounting and donation services to nonprofits, it enables nonprofit staff to pour more energy into their mission. Today, Cedarstone is an international business services organization with 200+ clients (mainly Christian) that are changing the world!
As an Accountant, you will manage financial transactions, reporting, and analyses for a set of clients. You will maintain strong client relationships by understanding their needs, responding to financial inquiries, and ensuring timely, accurate deliverables. This includes assessing issues, presenting solutions, and overseeing implementation to completion.
- Salary: $22-$32/hour, depending on experience.
- Job class: PT flexible schedule, 20-24 hours/week

SUCCESS MEASURES
Client retention.
- Perform client contracts. Execute client contracts in a timely and accurate manner.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Accounting (65%)
- Chart of accounts. Perform chart of accounts set up and modification as needed.
- General ledger. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
- A pprovals. Approve bill payments and wire payments.
- Journal entries. Prepare and post journal entries.
- Closings. Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual closing activities.
- AP/AR management. Manage accounts payable and receivable, reconcile balances.
- Budgeting. Enter annual budgets into accounting systems; report variances.
- Internal controls. Support the internal controls that are in place. Provide guidance to clients’ internal accounting staff as needed.
- Compliance. Ensure legal compliance with GAAP and internal control standards.
- Client leadership resource. Provide financial and non-profit guidance to clients’ leadership team.
- Financial reporting. Ensure monthly and annual financial reporting are completed for your set of clients accurately and on time.
Client Relationship Management (5%)
- Client engagement. Meet with each client’s operations team at a frequency agreed upon with the client. Engage in conversations based on client situations, financial analysis and projections, and cost identification and allocation.
- Communication. Proactively ask clients accounting-related questions, answer their questions, and follow up on their requests and action items in a timely manner.
- Explanations. Explain information in reports to clients, provide analytical tools to assist them in problem solving, and collaborate with them on developing solutions. Produce special reports as needed, including reports for their board of directors.
People Coordination (5%)
- Cross-functional orientation. Understand how accounting teams work cross-functionally with other Cedarstone teams for efficient service delivery to clients.
- Client relationship teams. Manage assigned client relationship team(s) and tasks to ensure all aspects of client service are being performed accurately and in a timely manner as specified in the client’s contract. Meet with team(s) weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly to ensure all client commitments are met and staff questions addressed.
- Communicate staff time overages relative to the contract to your ATM.
- Month end checklist. Create and execute a month-end checklist per client in Canopy.
Project Management (5%)
- Onboarding. Participate in the onboarding of select new clients. This may involve tasks such as establishing accounting policies and protocols, setting up a new chart of accounts, determining system needs, evaluating past transactions, and converting prior account codes to facilitate future reporting functions.
- Assess client needs by collaborating with stakeholders and tailor solutions accordingly.
- Manage accounting projects, ensuring timely and accurate delivery of services. Develop project plans, set milestones, and track progress.
Audits (5%)
- External audits. Coordinate annual external audits for clients with auditors which includes scheduling audits, gathering information, delegating responsibilities to clients and staff, and ensuring deadlines are met and completed accurately.
- 990. Ensure annual on-time filings of clients’ Form 990 by auditors.
Knowledge Resource and Training (5%)
- Internal trainer. May be asked to conduct internal training sessions for team members on accounting standards, tools, and best practices.
- Internal resource. Be an internal resource for Accountants or Associates as needed.
Internal Process Improvement (5%)
- Identify improvement opportunities in your area that might enhance accounting process efficiency, accuracy, and productivity—and share these ideas with your ATM for consideration.
General (5%)
- Document processes to ensure work could be carried on by someone else.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned and attend various Cedarstone meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and education
- 2+ years experience performing accounting work on an accounting platform.
- 2-year or 4-year degree that includes some accounting training.
Skills
- Knowledge of accounting principles and regulations.
